Sean Penn, president of the Cannes Film Festival jury, called Clint Eastwood a "bastard"
for not casting him in more than just one movie. Then, when asked whether he would be biased against the Eastwood film up for a vote at Cannes, Penn said the charge of bias was "very insulting."
But he wasn't even embarrassed to say that the deck will be stacked in favor of films that reflect his political viewpoint:
Penn said it was impossible to separate film from politics, and promised that the winning film would be a reflection of the current climate.
“One way or another, when we select the Palme d'Or winner, I think we are going to feel very confident that the film-maker who made the film is very aware of the times in which he or she lives.”
Apparently nobody in Cannes thinks this is unfair bias.
